Paul, I don't have a 790 but I am starting a new lawn buisness. I started by getting buisness cards and just stopping at new houses that need grass planted. I chose this way and not the yellow pages so I could control the amount of buisness I have coming in so as not to get in over my head. So far so good, I did run a ad in the local paper for one day,because it was a spring, yard, and garden special edition. I haul my tractor (4600 JD) with a 16' 10,000# capacity. Tracy, what kind of problems exactly have you been having? My 4600 had the check valves replaced because they leak by so bad, (diddn't help any) also have trouble with joy stick lever locking when trying to raise boom,when ever you try to lift boom of loader just a little it acts like it's hitting a stop of some kind. Then after playing with it it might move real slow or other times after moving it back and forth it will move normally but that sucks when you're trying to hook to something and only want to feather it a little.

Ernie, I do alot of custom snow removal and my choice is a blower, the only way I'd ever use a blade again is if the blower was broke down. With a blower you move the snow once, no dinking around with a loader to make room for next snow fall. If you try to move snow with frozen rain on top of it you will see how quick a blade becomes almost useless. Tractor will slide off sideways unless you can take a small bite at a time, my blower has gone through snow that would have been next to impossible to do with blade.

M.Sulivan: I don't think you have to worry about learning how to operate your new tractor. Most manufactureres cover there equipment in great detail be it tractors or 3pt equipment and etc. READ THE MANUAL it will provide in detail most everything you need to know and then some. Your manual wiil walk you through the safety,operation,hydraulics, capacities, dos and don'ts of operation. I use to mow with a 970 Deere 72" belly mount deck and it did an excellent job. Just read your manual (a couple of times) and take your time until you get the feel of how it handles and enjoy. Bud.

Rick: I guess I could have told you in my last post and diddn't that I ran turfs for loader work, snow blowing, planting sweetcorn and other produce, mowing with a bushhog, finishmower, blading, rototilling, just to name a few, with excellent results until I purchased ag-tires.(I switched back and forth as needed) I wanted ag-tires because of turfs being wider and running to close to rows when planting and cultivating. I had 700hrs on the turfs when I purchased ags and front and rear turfs had at least 85% tread or more left. Turfs will work excellent for what you are gonna be doing. Bud.

Mark: I'm not sure about the 790 but I'm guessing it is the same set up as the 970, you should have several choices in tire settings which should be explained towards the back of your manual. Bud.

I know it's a slap in the face but a John Deere dealer can cross referance bearings as long as #s are readable on old bearings. I have replaced many bearings through my dealer and the prices are very competitive.

Robert: I own a Deere 60" roto-tiller and had to cut a couple of inches off pto shaft. Did it myself with no problem.

Eddie: can,t help you with the Kabota price or Deere serial#s. If you are buying or looking at any 4000 series tractor on a dealers lot ask the dealer or look at the steering cylinder on the right front axle, there should be only one shaft coming out of the cylinder. If the cylinder is located more under the tractor with a shaft coming out both ends this is the old style axle. I,ve looked at 4000s at four different dealers and have yet to see the new style axle.

On the 70&4000 series this valve controls only the speed at which the three point drops. That way you can adjust rate of drop on heavy or light equipment.

Trock: I coudn't have said it better and I to would like to thank Scott for at least trying. I'm sure most owners just figure the scruffing of the turf is just a trademark of using a compact for yard work and do not say anything. I know this for a fact because I've talked to some of these owners,but you can bet they know when we're done talking. It's to bad when other owners have to do what Deere and company should be doing themselves. Bud in Ohio.

Chris:I have a 4600 and it has done the same as your 4200 since day one. My brother was a Deere mechanic for 19 years and he said it is caused by a bad check valve or o-ring inside the rearend. I had a 970 that never leaked until I changed the hyd.fluid,never did figure that one out.

Michael, I owned a Herd spreader and did not like it because it had almost a flat bottom and it would not empty out.I to only used it a couple of times a year but it was a pain trying to empty the thing out.200$ is not a bad price if you do decide to go with it.

Bruce, a power rake is run off your pto,it has a reverse rotating drumb that keeps the dirt churning in front of the rake so as to pulverize clods to leave a fine ssed bed 1-2 inches deep.Most power rakes swivel from side to side hydraulicly to windrow stones and or grass,weeds,and other trash into piles so you can clean them up with your loader.They say you can dethatch a lawn or go in a yard needing complete renovation and make two passes,one pass to tear existing grass out and a second to fine tune the seed bed.Finn corp.and Harley make a power rake Harley being better known here in Ohio.Most rental places usually carry some sort of power rake.

Dwight, you mentioned you had a problem with your control valve, I to have a 4600 and am having trouble with my control valve.Mine acts like it is locked when trying to raise the loader I have to move it side to side and pull it back many times to get it to raise.Just currious what yours did.Thanks in advance.
